With the store turning a year old tomorrow, I thought it might be a good time to start a blog of what's going on at 1326 Post Road.
A year ago today, at exactly this time of night, I put the last coat of paint on the trim of the store, and hopped in my car towards Brooklyn with my good friend, vet and co-painter Grace to see one of my favorite bands, The Twilight Singers on the last night of their US tour. Why, when I was opening my store in 11 hours would I do such a thing? Because their drummer called and said "You're coming to the show, and you're bringing those pants, right? The new velvet pants? Because I woke up dreaming about my new pants" You need pants? I'm your girl! I measured him 2 nights previous in Boston, and we talked trousers. And although most people don't have 2 day turn around needs, that was the whole point of opening up the store. People. People, and their pants, and me. A year later, we have made many, many pairs of perfect pants. One of my favorites just happened-we picked her up at the train station right behind the store, she fit her muslin, left to visit her good friend and who is also our good friend and client(4 pairs in her closet)came back the next day for a pre-lunch fitting, and we dropped her at the station for the 3:30 train back to the city, pants in hand. The process doesn't always go that swiftly, but what a pleasure to know something you designed is such a happy part someones life.
Many coats, suits, weddings, gowns and 70 hour work weeks later, I very happy to have opened the door to all the wonderful people I have met in the past year. Thanks, and keep checking in on what's happening. People always ask me "Where do you get the ideas for all this stuff? What's your inspiration?" With this blog, I'll keep you posted on the spring collection as it forms, and I hope to see you all at the Fairfield Theatre Company on February 28th when it hits the stage. In the meantime, if you need pants, I'm still your girl.
